Cheddar invited us to talk about Locast. They were interested in understanding how our non-profit is helping broadcasters by streaming local broadcast signals over the Internet. Our chairman David Goodfriend told Cheddar Wednesday. “What I’d like to be able to do is help broadcasters with their advertising, reaching the audiences that are online. I think we could help broadcasters understand who’s watching those advertisements and basically give that data to their ad sales team.” As we continue to expand, we continue to find more people interested in supporting our mission.
Online TV Streamer Locast Has an Ambitious Plan to Help Broadcasters
Locast.org, America’s only nonprofit, free, local broadcast TV digital translator live TV streaming service, was founded by Sports Fans Coalition NY (SFCNY), a New York-based nonprofit, fan-advocacy group formed in 2017. Locast launched in 2018 and is available in 33 DMAs. SFCNY is the first local chapter of Sports Fans Coalition, Inc., which led the successful campaign to end the FCC’s Sports Blackout Rule and continues to advocate for fans. In 2020, Locast added more than 1 million users, making it one of the fastest-growing live TV streaming services and was named the 2020 most-improved streaming service by TechHive. As a nonprofit, Locast is supported by user donations and is available at www.locast.org.
